How to Choose a High Quality Lab Grown Diamond for Your Ring: Her Crown Diamond Selection Standards
At Her Crown, we believe a beautiful diamond should be chosen for more than a number on a certificate.
Every diamond we select begins with documented gemological standards, then passes through a second, distinctly human layer of scrutiny: the trained eye, experience and aesthetic judgment of our diamond specialists.
This is how we approach every diamond that becomes part of a Her Crown piece.
Step One: Begin With Independent IGI Verification
We specialize exclusively in lab-grown diamonds, and independent gemological documentation is the foundation of our selection process.
As our standard, white and fancy-colored lab-grown diamonds over one carat are accompanied by an IGI report. The report records important gemological information including the diamond’s carat weight, color, clarity, measurements and applicable cut and finish assessments.
Each reported diamond can also be identified through its unique IGI report number. For laboratory-grown diamonds, IGI states that the report number is laser-inscribed on the girdle, with the “LG” prefix identifying laboratory-grown origin. This allows the physical diamond to be matched to its grading documentation and independently verified through IGI.
At Her Crown, this identity remains transparent throughout your experience.
The diamond information and IGI report are presented to you before craftsmanship begins, and the finished piece remains traceable to the selected diamond after it has been set. Besides the IGI report for the Diamond, we offer IGI report for the crafted ring as well.
The certificate establishes the facts. Our selection process goes further.

Step Two: We Select for Beauty, Not Numbers Alone
Two diamonds can share the same carat weight, color and clarity grades and still look remarkably different.
That is where professional diamond selection matters.
Our specialists examine every diamond individually—not only the center stone, but also the accent diamonds and the smaller diamonds used throughout our bands and fine-jewelry designs.
We study the relationship between proportions, symmetry, polish, shape and light behavior, looking beyond the headline specifications to the way a diamond actually presents to the eye.
For brilliant cuts, we seek the balance that encourages strong light return, brightness, fire and scintillation.
For fancy shapes, we pay particular attention to shape-specific characteristics, including the presence and severity of bow-tie effects, areas of light leakage, uneven visual balance and proportions that may diminish the diamond’s beauty.
We eliminate stones that show even subtle windowing or distracting bow-tie effects when these compromise the visual character we are seeking.
Because a diamond is meant to be lived with—not simply photographed under perfect lighting.
We Look at the Diamond in Real Light
A diamond should not need jewelry-store spotlights to look beautiful.
Under intense lighting, almost any well-cut diamond can appear exceptionally bright. The more revealing test is how it behaves as the lighting becomes softer and more ordinary.
We therefore consider the diamond’s appearance across natural and everyday lighting conditions, observing how it responds as the stone and light move.
We look for a lively balance of brightness and contrast, flashes of fire and the changing scintillation that gives a diamond its sense of movement.
The goal is not simply maximum sparkle in one photograph. It is a diamond that continues to feel beautiful when you look down at your hand during an ordinary day.

Your Diamond, Personally Selected
For many customers, especially with white diamonds, our specialists may identify one particularly compelling stone that meet your preference of proportion and presence.
For others, there is a more personal decision to make.
Color is deeply subjective.
A pink diamond may lean toward a softer blush, a warmer rose or a more saturated pink. A yellow diamond may feel delicate and luminous or rich and intense. Blue can reveal different nuances depending on hue, tone and saturation.
When your preference calls for it, we may present two or three carefully selected diamonds for you to compare.
You choose the one that speaks to you.
Before we craft the diamond into its setting, we provide a detailed presentation—including the diamond’s documentation and video—so you can see the stone for yourself and approve the selection with confidence.

The Her Crown Standard
IGI gives you an independent gemological foundation.
Our role begins where a certificate alone cannot end.
We bring together documented diamond characteristics, professional visual assessment, proportion and light-performance considerations, and an understanding of how the finished diamond will live within a piece of fine jewelry.
From the center stone to the smallest accent diamond, every stone is selected with intention.
Because at Her Crown, we do not believe the question is simply:
“Does this diamond meet the specifications?”
We ask something more considered:
“Is this the right diamond for her?”
That is the standard behind every Her Crown diamond.
